Rally Day Thoughts
For those of you who did attend Rally Day, I am interested to hear your thoughts. How can this event be improved or tailored more for the student? What did you like/dislike? Please post comments.
For first-timers, rally day can be intimidating. I hoped there would be more of an orientation as to how the political process works, what we can expect, and more of our purpose on that day. Also, given we are asking for legislative support on our bills, it would be nice to have a better background on the issue, not to mention information that we can actually hand the representative or senator so they aren't jotting down notes as we talk.
Rally day was a great experience, but there should be more of a focus on the importance of why students should be attending and exactly what sort of impact we have.
I agree with what BJ said about the orientation and handout aspect. Also, it would've been nice to have something to do during all the down time when we weren't meeting with legislators (a presentation or research posters, etc). --Katy Smith, SPT at UPS
BJ is right, rally day can be intimidating, but the more you go the more comfortable you will feel with it. It also helps to familiarize yourself with the issues that are currently on the table, and the ones that will be coming. It is easy to do by just logging onto the PTWA website.
I would agree that it would be helpful to be able to do something more productive during the downtime, which seems to be in excess.
